Food and Your Workouts

Most of you have probably read that eating before and after a workout is a way to make it more effective, but some people might be a little confused as far as what it is they need to eat. Different foods offer different benefits such as energy, hydration, protein for muscle recovery, and fiber to help kick-start your day. bananas for breakfast

If you take pre-workout supplement powder, that might provide enough energy for you to kick-start your workouts. However, if you are an early riser and want to get your workout in first thing in the morning, eating something rich in carbohydrates is probably the better energy option for you. Eat something that contains healthy fat and carbs like a banana or sliced apple with a little bit of peanut butter or a protein bar. If you are more of an afternoon/evening gym goer, you may want to try eating something a littler different like oatmeal and blueberries or a handful of almonds. No matter what the choice, all of these options will give you healthy energy to power through your workout!

Muscle recovery is crucial for post-workout, so choosing something that is high in protein is always your best option. In my opinion, protein powder is the easiest way to go because it’s quick. Just blend it in your Blender Bottle and you are all set! If you want to up the protein you can always add it to low-fat almond milk as well. Other options include Greek yogurt and chocolate milk. If you know that you are going to be eating a full meal after your workout, opt for grilled chicken and veggies or whip up a homemade omelet loaded with veggies!

Remember, abs are made in the kitchen! What you eat really does matter in your fitness/weight loss journey. :)
